Today, I went skateboarding in North Hollywood, CA.

Here are some spots I hit up:

  • Universal City/Studio City Metro Station: The Metro-station’s parking lot has brand-new asphalt and a good downhill grade. It's easy to skate in and out of the parking lot, hop up on parking blocks, and roll down Lankershim Blvd.
  • City National Bank: I'm still building up my trick catalog. But there's a drive-through ATM lane at this bank that was great for beginners like me to practice ollies off the curb. There are sloped pedestrian walkways and ramps, a parking garage, and plenty of smooth sidewalks to build up speed.
  • Sidewalks: Around North Hollywood and Studio City, the sidewalks are gnarly. Earthquakes have buckled and mangled many sidewalks around Los Angeles. In North Hollywood and other neighborhoods, sidewalks can turn into great impromptu spots. Cracks and buckling can make great natural ramps onto the street or a newly-painted curb. Just park up somewhere random and hit the streets to see what’s turned into a skate spot.
