I have a large box of green grapes in my fridge.

I bought them at Costco. There were other types of grapes there too: red ones.

If you had asked me while I stood there what types of grapes there are, I would have told you that I think there are two types, red and green.

Those were the options presented, so it seems like an obvious answer.

But obviously, that’s not true.

There are actually over 10,000 grape varieties all over the world, grown for wines, jams, grape juice, and for stomping.

But thank goodness there aren’t 10,000 grapes to choose from at Trader Joe's.

If there were, I’d never make it out of there.

Choosing between two options is easy. It reduces the nuance of decision-making to a binary choice.

Red and green. Seeds and seedless. Juice and jam.

Sometimes that’s the easiest way to get out of the grocery store.

But sometimes more choices can help us find exactly what we need.
